Jan is a composer, producer, dramaturg and music director, as well as a member of the band Chinaski. As a pianist, he gained international recognition by winning the Czech Jazz Contest in 2013 and placing second at the solo jazz piano competition in Freiburg. From 2009 to 2018 he led the backing band of Ewa Farna, and in 2014 he recorded with the project Android Asteroid at Abbey Road Studios in London. He is the co-author of the hit Friend of a Friend by Lake Malawi, which placed 11th at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019.
He creates symphonic arrangements for leading Czech artists, including Chinaski (1st Symphony), Ewa Farna (Live at O2 Universum) and Lenny (Municipal House), and he regularly works with orchestras such as the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Janáček Philharmonic and the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. As a music director, he contributes to large-scale arena shows for Chinaski, Ewa Farna and Lucie Bílá. In film music, he has worked on titles such as For Better or Worse, Behind Every Woman, Worshipped, Happiness Is a Beautiful Thing and On the Roof.
He is the author of numerous string arrangements for artists including Karel Gott, Pokáč and Lenny, and he creates music for international advertising campaigns for brands such as Krušovice, Scholl, Spak and M7. Since 2019 he has been the arranger and producer for jazz singer Jan Smigmator, whom he also accompanied at a performance in New York’s Carnegie Hall. He has collaborated with Vladimír Mišík, Tomáš Klus, Xindl X, Mel C, Ben Cristovao, Sofian, Michal Horáček and bands such as Mirai and Vesna. He is also the author of the publication The Keyboardist’s Guide, which helps prepare young musicians for their professional journey.
